That looks like the LADWP Harbor Steam Plant in the background. One legacy from the days of Henry Huntington was that all electric power to run the Red Cars and Yellow Cars was supplied by Southern Calif. Edison, even in areas taken over by DWP during the teens and twenties.
I love this old picture, great composition! Behind 2235 looks to be an old Terminal Island conventional loading.
The PE #2235 was a standard 2 door WHITE transit with an underfloor 12 cylinder gasoline motor. They got 3-mpg!!
Would anyone know the cross streets in this photo?
This is looking southeast/southwest from the corner of Avalon Blvd and W. “D-St”; (streets change from West to East
at Avalon), in Wilmington. PE’s station sat behind that metal fencing on the south side of Avalon.
If you Google ‘331 Avalon Blvd, Wilmington’ (the address of PE’s station in 1947) you can do a street view and looking closely at the curbing on the west side of Avalon you can see the diagonal concrete where the sidewalk ended. That concrete light pole directly in the center of the photo is still in position as well as a few of the single-level buildings—including the two-story brick one with the ‘shipping’ and ‘steamship’ advertising on the upper wall, south-east of them.
