5006 Leaving Storage

Former Pacific Electric PCC no. 5006 and another unit leave storage in the now-abandoned Subway Terminal Tunnel toward an unknown fate (in Argentina). The date is June 20, 1959.

I took this picture and their fate was known. They were placed on a ship and sent to Argentina LOL
They ran briefly in Buenos Aires after being fixed up and repainted in a very similar scheme to the PE (different colors, but wings). They were comfortable and quiet. Some had doors cut in the front, trolleys removed and third rail shoes installed. A lot of work was done but their service career was very brief. The branch the covered was shut down after they were removed from service — not even a replacement bus service.
