    On top of rough track it looks like the overhead wire is distanced from the rails to accommodate full sized interurban cars. The trolley pole looks dangerously vertical ! By contrast the 1299 had trolley bases mounted close to the roof so it could run through the subway tunnel if desired …

    Donald Duke also shot this scene in color. His image was later turned into a 5 x 7 post card that was part of the “Vanishing Vistas” series of post cards published in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. You can occasionally find the Vanishing Vistas post cards on eBay as they are still collected by many railfans.
