1223 for Covina

That would most likely be the Covina SP depot, and the photo would be from 1946 or early 1947, after the PE electrified the SP track through Covina and Baldwin Park and abandoned Badillo St. operation. It appears that both poles on 1223 are down, suggesting that this was taken on a weekend, and the car would not be energized until Monday morning.

These are some great pictures of the old P.E. I wish I was old enough to have ridden them before shutting down. Great work on catching so many pictures Alan.
Although PE Red Car service to Covina ended not long after this photo was taken, today’s commuters board Metrolink trains about a block west of here, riding on a modern railroad with welded rail and concrete ties. I mention this because last month my older daughter started a new job in downtown LA and now rides the rails to work from Covina.
