Pacific Electric interurbans nos. 1210 and 1219 are caught together in this dramatic image taken at a crossover probably in the Northern District. 1210 carries an ad for the Los Angeles County Fair, making this late summer or early fall.

This was taken in Baldwin Park (Northern District), near where the post-1946 alignment went northeast after crossing Ramona Blvd. The Vineland Sub is in the background (the building still exists), and the track running through Baldwin Park from Bassett was completely rebuilt in 1991-92 and now carries over three dozen Metrolink trains every weekday. The track in the foreground was in service until about 1972, when the PE line between LA and El Monte was rerouted to connect with the SP north of downtown El Monte.
Most likely taken in the late 1940’s.

The El Monte – Baldwin Park line was part of the Eastern District’s San Bernardino line which left the Northern District at Valley Junction. This was also the line used for LA County Fair specials, so that might explain the advertising. My Grandparents’ house was on Granada Ave. in El Monte less than a block south of the line. The PE crossed the SP at an oblique angle on the east end of El Monte along what was then called San Bernardino Road.
