#1214 is NOT painted black! It’s standard PE red and the photo was taken
on orthochromatic film which is not sensitive to red/yellows and will show
as black or a very dark grey. The later panchromatic black and white film
was more sensitive to the entire color spectrum and the colors look a lot
more natural in varying shades of grey.
The underbody carriages show different style sideframes than what is normally used on the steel interurban cars, including #1214.
I don’t know what sort of activity Bishop & Company engaged in, but a 1925 industrial map of LA shows them as a tenent at the massive warehouse coomplex adjacent to PE’s 8th Street Yard. This picture was probably taken when the 1200-1221 group was brand new in 1915 at PE’s 7th & Central (pre-Torrance) general shops.
