This would be looking southward in front of what was then the Huntington Hotel. One of the outlying buildings held a radio studio for KXLA, which in those days broadcast country & western (or as we said back then, hillbilly and cowboy) music, including live shows with Cliffie Stone’s Hometown Jamboree. One of my aunts took my brother and me to a broadcast; I remember a bit about the show, but what really stuck in my mind was the tiger-striped diesel switcher (probably a Baldwin) pulling a scrap train with rail from the recently abandoned Oak Knoll Line in late 1950.
