Video: Ridin’ The Rails Once More
Michael Patris and Alan Weeks of the Pacific Electric Railway Historical Society are featured in this fantastic new video produced by Los Angeles County Newsroom to mark the opening of the final leg of the Metro Expo Line to Santa Monica, which traverses much of the original Pacific Electric Air Line. Alan was the last passenger to ride the old Air Line back in 1953, and here he is, riding the new Expo Line and sharing his memories. Great work by all!!!

What moving and evocative video — 87 miles regained, 1,013 to go.
As one of those young people and public transit advocates that Alan refers to in the video, this nearly brought a tear to my eye.
It’s an honor to carry the torch forward, Mr. Weeks. 🙂
Walter Abbenseth at far right, He saved many red cars, which are now at Orange Empire Rwy Museum.
Mr. Alan Weeks is absolutely correct when he says the new transit system is “all the way around a better system” than what they had before. But, I love the old PE cars in the same way people love vintage automobiles. They were not as technically advanced as today’s car, but they were certainly beautiful to look at – they were classics.
And I am grateful to Walter Abbenseth for saving many of the vintage “Big Red Cars” including my favorite, PE 1001.
