This would have been in 1938 or shortly thereafter, when the high-numbered Hollywood cars became “Valley Sevens”. It doesn’t have the excursion sign displayed, but this car was used for an early Railroad Boosters (today’s Pacific Railroad Soc.) fan trip at about this time. Judging from the freshness of the paint, 738 may have just come from Torrance shops for inspection by PE officials. I remember 1137 from its service on the Monrovia-Glendora line. It seemed to have a regular assignment on the Saturday morning 9:20 westbound out of Monrovia that my brother and I would sometimes ride to San Marino. Walter Abbenseth told me that this was one of a few 1100’s that didn’t get the updated interior lighting during the early-40’s makeover.
