Seeing a 5050 on the Monrovia-Glendora Line was fairly unusual–when my brother and I rode the cars on Saturday mornings to meet our dad in San Marino, we usually got one of the 732-759 group of cars, which had a padded box up front where we could watch to motorman. The 5050s had a toolbox with a sloping lid, no place for junior railfans to sit. Years later I would learn that Monrovia runs would always have a two-man crew, and passengers would board through the center doors. I’ve read that on the Pasadena Short Line, the cars would run one-man and load through the front door.
