This west bound car is on a single track bridge is just north of the cutoff to North Hollywood on the way to Van Nuys, crossing the Los Angeles River. This was a bridge that was shared by the Southern Pacific following the great flood of 1938.
Regarding #722, Donald Duke’s remark, January 8, 2010 11:04 am, about
the bridge shared by the SP in 1938.
Did the SP shuttle freight over the Cahuenga Pass into Hollywood,
down Highland Avenue to Santa Monica Blvd then Sunset Blvd and into LA
during this period? Or was the route to the west along Santa Monica Blvd?
I was born in North Hollywood in 1945 and remember at an early age, the
PE traveled south on Highland Avenue and then made a turn to the east
(dual tracks) onto Santa Monica Blvd towards downtown LA.
