Date is March 1938, just after the massive storm and floods of that month. The car is outbound from Los Angeles and heading towards the San Fernando Valley. It is on Cahuenga Boulevard, leaving Hollywood, and about to enter Cahuenga Pass. It will be able to travel past Universal City to the station of Los Nogales (sign on car), which was at Ventura Boulevard and Vineland Boulevard. Just north of there, the bridges over the Los Angeles River and Tujunga Wash had been washed out.

Just to make this clear about Cahuenga, we’re looking down toward the Highland Avenue alignment where Cahuenga has curved in from east to west to meet it just north of The Bowl (right) and the French Village area (left) at the flat-land opening of the pass at this spot. (The “Car Stop” shifted northward over time.)
